The
photographs
above were taken
10 days before
the day of
terror and
tragedy in New
York, leading to
the complete
collapse of both
of what had once
been, when
constructed in
1970-72,
the world's
tallest
buildings.
The death toll
from the
collapse of
these two
buildings is
estimated to be
about 4,000 -
about twice the
number killed in
the Japanese
attack on Pearl
Harbor in
1941. The
buildings are
occupied by
about 40,000 on
any given
workday.
